Introducing our new KIDS EAR HEALTH SCREENING service

Undiagnosed hearing loss in children can affect speech development, learning and even behaviour and the problem has become increasingly common in Australia.

To help address this, we are so proud and excited to announce a new KIDS EAR HEALTH SCREENING for children aged four and over. 

Our comprehensive ear health screening will cost $70 and during the appointment our expert audiologists will cover three essential areas:  

1. Outer Ear Health (Otoscopy)  

 We’ll look inside your child's ears using a video otoscope to assess their outer ear health. This helps identify visible issues like ear wax blockages or infections. For children who have had grommet surgery, we will also be able to determine if the grommets are still in the ears.  

2. Middle Ear Health (Tympanometry)  

 This middle ear function test is the gold standard for detecting fluid behind the eardrum – a common issue even after middle ear infections have cleared. Tympanometry gives an objective measurement that can help your GP make informed decisions about treatment.  

3. Hearing Check  

 Our fun, game-based iPad hearing test helps us assess your child's hearing ability in a stress-free and engaging way. If your child’s results are flagged, our audiologists will refer them on to Hearing Australia for further assessment. The test can be completed on your child up to 4 times. That means if you have any concerns with their hearing in the future you can return to the clinic and retest their hearing.

Why is this important?  

Around 4 out of 5 children will experience a middle ear infection at least once, and fluid from these infections can remain even after symptoms subside, potentially leading to undetected hearing issues. This could impact their learning, speech development, and social skills.  

Our screening helps detect these issues early so your child can get the care they need and avoid potential challenges later in life.  

This service is available at both our Attadale and Balcatta clinics starting Monday the 2nd of December 2024.
